Have you ever walked into a shop and thought ‘Wow, I love this place!’
NFEST Organiser Penny Peart walks us through one of her favourite places to shop. And naturally, there’s an NFEST connection….
This is how I feel each time I walk into Escape and Create, the fabric and haberdashery shop in St Ives.
For many years I have stepped through the door into this marvellous shop to buy fabric for my sewing projects and I’m never disappointed by the choice of fabrics and the customer service. I’ve also realised why it is called Escape and Create… it’s because you escape into this world of amazing textiles, textures and imagine what you can create with a metre or two of glorious fabric.
This year our NFEST Organising Committee have been looking at ways we can bring a bit more zazazoom to the festival experience! So in addition to the new Festival Fizz Bar and the NFEST Cafe I came up with idea to make a very large banner to hang from the Village Hall, which is why we turned to Escape and Create for help.
After emailing the owner, Julie, asking for some odds and ends we had the most amazing reply.
“We would love to help! And we’ll happily provide all the fabric you need.”
So I arranged to meet Julie at the shop and together we selected a great choice of colourful fabrics. Julie said how thrilled she was to have been asked as she had loved attending the festival many times over the years!
She is particularly excited to see the festival taking action by addressing environmental issues, a cause close to her heart.
After 20 years working in the corporate world, Julie started teaching people to sew in 2015, opening her beautiful shop two years later. Julie says the best thing about owning a fabric shop is choosing her favourite fabrics to stock!
The Committee would like to warmly thank Julie and her team for their invaluable help. We hope they all come along to see the end result!
